Your rankings look fine. Your traffic report looks fine. But a buyer just asked ChatGPT which WordPress plugin to use, and your brand was not in the answer. Would your current reports tell you that? Probably not. That is the problem with measuring search the old way.
Most teams start AI search optimization in the wrong place. They add FAQ blocks. They rewrite headings as questions. They sprinkle “conversational keywords” across every post. Then they wait for ChatGPT to notice.
You publish a helpful post. It ranks on page one. Then someone asks ChatGPT the exact same question, and your site is nowhere in the answer. Sounds familiar? Search is no longer just ten blue links.
You do not need to rewrite your old blog posts to show up in AI search. You need to refresh them the right way: protect what already ranks, fill the gaps AI answers reveal, and add information only you have. That matters more every month.
For years, the SEO goal was simple. Get the page onto page one. That goal still matters. But AI search has added a second outcome: your content being referenced or cited inside an AI-generated answer. A page ranking #1 does not automatically become the source an AI system chooses for its answer.
Search did not change overnight. But it did change shape. For two decades, the deal was simple. You ranked a page, people clicked, and your website answered the question. Now Google often answers first.
Perplexity rates the websites it cites by asking three questions. Does the site correct its mistakes? Does it say who wrote each piece? Does it keep news separate from advertising and opinion? That is it. Three plain questions, published openly.
Your page hits position one for a keyword you have chased for months. The team celebrates. Somebody posts the screenshot in Slack. Then you open the analytics dashboard, and the line barely moves. Same traffic. Same leads. Same revenue. Just a better ranking.
Search is no longer just about ranking blue links. You can rank first and still watch an AI-generated answer sit above you, taking the click you earned. Your page can be cited inside ChatGPT without ranking anywhere near Google’s top 10.
If you searched for “GetGenie vs Rank Math AI,” here’s the short answer: Rank Math’s AI is not part of Rank Math. It’s a separate product you have to buy on top of the SEO plugin. GetGenie, on the other hand, gives you AI writing and SEO tools in one subscription, one price, no second […]
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini securely read, write, and manage a WordPress site through plain language instead of clicking through wp-admin.
To rank for GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) in 2026, you optimize for two different engine types at once. These are Google’s index-based AI (AI Overviews and AI Mode), where strong SEO fundamentals still decide visibility, and independent answer engines…
